This week, HBO’s Game of Thrones is all new with the first of the final three episodes of Season 5. It was recently announced that the show would end before the books, spoiling the ending for readers before they could ever get the chance to read them. However, Martin has recently released update on his plans to finish the next book, A Song of Ice and Fire: The Winds of Winter, by 2016.

The official plot synopsis for this week’s all new episode of Game of Thrones, titled “Hardhome,” reads:

“Arya makes progress in her training; Sansa meets an old friend; Jon takes to the road; Cersei's troubles pile up.”

Recently, it was announced that the HBO series would end, before George R.R. Martin will be able to finish the book series with David Benioff telling a panel at Oxford Union at the university (via Mashable) :

"Luckily, we’ve been talking about this with George for a long time, ever since we saw this could happen, and we know where things are heading. And so we’ll eventually, basically, meet up at pretty much the same place where George is going; there might be a few deviations along the route, but we’re heading towards the same destination. "

Now, George R.R Martin is opening up to Entertainment Weekly about the his plans to play catch up:

“Maybe I’m being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I’m turning down a lot more interviews--anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done.”
