As hard as it is to believe with her currently producing one new TV show after another this year, day time talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres, is said to be retiring from showbusiness all together once her current TV show contract expires in 2017. According to the latest gossip news updates, the early retirement isn't exactly Ellen's idea. Word has to that her wife, Scandal actress Portia de Rossi, is practically forcing the comedienne into leaving Hollywood for a new home in Australia where they can finally work on fixing their marriage and living in peace far away from the Tinsel Town paparazzi.
At 57-years-old Ellen DeGeneres already has a net worth that would take her more than one lifetime to spend, so it makes perfect sense that the talk show host would be ready to retire when her contract finally expires in a couple of years.
One source close to DeGeneres explains in the June 8, issue of OK! Magazine that Ellen was thinking that it might be time to take her bride, Portia de Rossi, back to her native Australia to spend the rest of their days relaxing in the sun:
"Ellen will be nearing 60 when her contract ends, and she feels like that's enough TV for her.
"Portia has often talked about moving home but the timing was never right for Ellen.
"Ellen's enjoyed her time in the limelight, but she doesn't need it forever...She wants them to ride off in to the sunset together."
According to the informant, Ellen just kind of came up with the idea of making Portia's dream come true after she recently realized that she had already enjoyed more success than she's really able to keep up with these days:
"She always told herself she would hang it up when it started to feel like a grind, and it's been hard for her to keep up her famous level of enthusiasm year after year.
"Portia is shocked and thrilled Ellen would consider this for her...It means the world."
A behind-the-scenes spy that Radar Online spoke to, however, painted quite a different portrait of the events that eventually led to Elle's decision to head for a home down in Australia after she eventually quits her dream job:
"[Portia] asked Ellen to not renew her contract so that she can be a better wife to her. She told her that she needs to focus on her family.
"She seems to really resent the show and everyone who works there...And Portia told her that she has already interviewed everyone there is to interview and the act just seems to be getting old."
As exciting as all that sounds, it's seems almost impossible to believe that after finally fighting her way back onto network television to guest star in Shonda Rhimes's hit political drama, Scandal, that Portia de Rossi would be looking to leave Hollywood so she can retire at the ripe old age of 45.
