The latest additions to the Jazz Hall of Fame have been announced by Jazz at Lincoln Center as of last week. Joining an echelon of musicians, the newest inductees are Dexter Gordon, James. P. Johnson and Lennie Tristano.
Saxophonist, Dexter Gordon, was considered the first tenor saxophonist to adopt the Charlie Parker-influenced be bop style in the '40s. Pianist, James P. Johnson pioneered the Harlem stride style of jazz in the '20s while Tristano was an innovative pianist of the late '40s.
From Louis Armstrong to Lionel Hampton to last year's Fletcher Henderson, the laundry list of talent that has been cemented as "Hall of Famers" is a certified lawn of greatness.
According to a press release, the inductees were chosen by "gaining majority popular vote cast by jazz fans around the world," and will be honored during a curated celebration from July 1 to 2. The ceremony will take place at JALC's Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola at Frederick P. Rose Hall.
On the panel who chose the latest additions were Ed Berger, Bill Charlap, Connie Crothers, Aaron Diehl, Jon Faddis, Vincent Giordano, Ethan Iverson, Jerome Jennings, Branford Marsalis, Renee Rosnes, Ellen Rowe, Bobby Sanabria, Phil Schaap, Loren Schoenberg, Bria Skonberg, Terell Stafford and Ben Young.
