It's been a big month for jazz and Black History Month alike as Jazz at Lincoln Center's Hall of Fame expands further to bring in brand new and deserving old talent.
Earlier this week, JALC announced this year's inductees into the Ertegun Jazz Hall of Fame. Among the inductees are Betty Carter, Fletcher Henderson, Elvin Jones and Wes Montgomery.
We quote from the press release:
"After gaining the majority popular vote cast by jazz fans around the world, the newest EJHF class with be inducted on June 9, in a private induction ceremony at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, at JALC's home, Frederick P. Rose Hall, Broadway at 60th Street, New York, NY."
To supplement that boilerplate, viewers can tune in for a live webcast of the event at JALC Live.
This year's inductees were decided during a public voting session, held between January 31 and February 14, which was open to jazz fans everywhere. This committee on new appointees included Ed Berger, Bill Charlap, Connie Crothers, Aaron Diehl, Jon Faddis, Vince Giordano, Ethan Iverson, Wynton Marsalis, Renee Rosnes, Dr. Ellen Rowe, Phil Schaap and Loren Schoenberg.
We here at Classicalite couldn't be happier for Betty Carter. Here she is live at the Hamburg Jazz Festival in 1993.
