Deepika Padukone was born in Copenhagen, but her family relocated to Bangalore India when she was 11-months-old. Prakash, her father, was a retired badminton player for India, and her mother Ujjala was a travel agent. Deepika attended Sophia High School, where she, too, played badminton, but only went as high as the state level. Unlike her father, it did not interest her. She, instead, turned to modeling.
Print ads and television commericals were what first got her noticed. Deepika also appeared in the 2006 Swimsuit Calendar. That year, she made her cinematic debut in the film Aishwarya. Her Bollywood debut would come a year later in Farah Khan's Om Shani Om opposite Shah Rukh Khan.
