New York Knicks superstar and former resident of Baltimore, Carmelo Anthony, has shown his love of the city and residents by calling for justice and peaceful protests on Instagram and by supporting the protestors in person. It is the unrest that is still throughout the streets of Baltimore that first led Melo to take to his Instagram account and leave a lengthy plea to the citizens. He then joined the protestors for a march to support the community in hopes of justice.
CBS Sports tell of the impassioned post on Instagram:
"...I know my community is fed up. I'm all about fighting for what we believe in. The anger, the resentment, the neglect that our community feels right now, will not change over night. Continue, fighting for what you believe in. But remember, it takes no time to destroy something. But, it can take forever to build it back up. The social media post was only the beginning for Anthony. He arrived in Baltimore and went on a march with protestors. Afterwards he explained his being there to the New York Post:
"This is the easy part, me walking down the streets that I grew up. My message to the city, especially the youth: calm down and relax, I understand the severity of what's going on right now. I understand the anger that our youth is feeling right now. We gotta put our arms around the youth and carry them along with us. I tell people all the time: 'We gonna get the justice that we want. It's gonna be served.'''
Anthony is genuinely taking to heart his stature as a role model and is hoping that change can come because of it. Baltimore is lucky to call him a son.
Do you think that Carmelo is going to be able to make a difference within the crowded voices of Baltimore? Will Anthony be able to start a trend and have other athlete stars step forward? Tell us what you think.
