With April's YouTube numbers due in at anytime, we should take a look back at March's most viewed K-Pop video. Despite being relative newcomers, Red Velvet, an all girl group, had the most viewed K-Pop video on YouTube in March 2015. Their song "Ice Cream Cake" took the top spot according to Billboard online.
But it is not all fun and roses for the girls of Red Velvet. A controversy has arose about "Ice Cream Cake's" video being way too similar to another K-Pop band's. An investigation by Kpopstarz.com found that, not only we're the videos shot in the same location, the choreography employed by Red Velvet was similar to that of B1A4's "Solo Day."
The similarities between the two videos was picked up by internet users. One user had this comment -
"I would be fine if it was just the like gas station and the diner," said YouTube user Lisa Chiang. "Even though LA is huge like seriously the same exact place? But I'll let that slide because I know a lot of [music videos] have the same sets and things. I mean even the same looking roads, which I can also let slide because it might be hard finding a long stretch of road that not a lot of people travel on. However the car scenes really almost exactly like Solo Day. Even the car! (I'm not a cars expert but they look pretty similar to me)."
It is not the first time the band has come under criticism for taking liberties
Piling on the misery for the clients of SM Entertainment is yet another copyright infringement controversy. A luggage company has claimed that the group's logo is an infringement on their logo. As well, a South Korean punk band named Red Velvet, who predated the girl group, expressed their disapproval of stealing their name.
