Bollywood producer Ekta Kapoor has one stipulation if you want to be in one of her productions. You have to get naked. She is so insistent on it that she wants you to sign a nudity clause before filming starts, so you can't get cold feet and back out. Now, Ekta Kapoor is making it mandatory to be in her films and actors will be held to the contract.
Kapoor is dealing from a position of power, however. Her recent films Ek Paheli Leela, Hate Story, Ragini MMS 2 or Grand Masti have all done successful box office, and now Kapoor is looking to go bigger and that means more sex.
And Bollywood is taking note.
Among young actresses, according to Indiaglitz.com, Kapoor's formula is a quicker way to success. Bollywood is known for its skin baring ways while not going all the way, so young ingénues are see a path to stardom that in the past might have taken longer. The clause not only covers nudity but the shooting of intimate scenes and course language.
Ekta Kapoor wants you naked and while you're there you might as well drop a couple F-bombs.
Says Ken Ghosh, upcoming director of one of Kapoor's films: '
"This is a first-of-its-kind happening in Hindi cinema. The details of the clause are the responsibility of the Balaji legal team. As the creative head of the project, all I can say is it will give me a leeway to freely pursue whatever my script demands,"
Kapoor's move comes at a time when the central censoring board is cracking down on sex and violence in Indian cinema. Money talks, though and, if Kapoor's films continue doing well at the box office, it will be a difficult train to slow down.
The list of actresses already lining up to work with Kapoor further underlines this.
