Controversy around the hit Bollywood film PK does not seem to be dying anytime soon. A group of 40 Hindu religious leaders and seers have gathered to try to ban the film in India.
In recent weeks, drama has been brewing after Hindu groups claimed the film offends their religion. Around 40 leaders and seers have gone to watch the controversial movie, claiming it is the first movie they have ever watched, to see what all the fuss is about.
"People are opposing this movie, so we decided to watch the movie before making any statement," said Computer Baba, a city-based seer, adding that they did not want to make any statement and protest without watching the movie.
But after viewing the film, the leaders had more to say about the film's portrayal of Hindu gods, many believing is was the movie's intention to mock the santan dharma.
"All gods and goddess were depicted in very objectionable manner," said the Baba, adding that they will raise their voice against the movie and put pressure on the government to ban it.
PK opened in India to critical acclaim and is currently the highest-grossing Indian film ever. The movie portrays a funny and lovable alien who lands in India and loses contact with his spaceship, but discovers that Indians are superstitious and starts to learn about religious dogmas.
But not everyone found the movie charming.
”We will hold a meeting of all seers on Monday to discuss the movie and chalk out future course of action. We will urge the BJP government in the state to ban this movie," said Baba.
The plan is to petition Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in hopes of pulling the film from theaters.
