Dr Horrible’s Sing Along Blog was perhaps one of the best things to come out of the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike. Fans have been anxiously awaiting the promised sequel to the film ever since. However, the problem is the Writers Guild is back at work and so is everyone else involved. Especially director Joss Whedon who has been busy helming Marvel’s Avengers and overseeing the rest of the MCU. However, Joss Whedon recently announced that he was exiting the Avengers movie franchise, handing over the keys to the kingdom to the Russo Brothers. Recently, star, Neil Patrick Harris & co-creator/writer/composer Jed Whedon have both opened up about the future of the series.
Earlier this year Jed Whedon released a statement to Entertainment Weekly about the sequel:
“We know we have spoken publicly about a sequel in the near distance and our passion to create it, and I promise we have not been insincere. Horrible is still one of our favorite creations by humans who were also us. We have many songs written and the plot outlined, but needless to say, we’ve been busy. Joss has had a hectic couple of years and is in the middle of the busiest year of his life, as is Zack and as are we. Also the actors have other things they’re acting in, I think. So the future is uncertain, our passion remains. DH2 will exist, in some format or another, at some point in the future. Unfortunately, the when is still unclear.”
Neil Patrick Harris recently echoed the Whedon’s statement, in less detail, telling fans at the Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo (via Gotham-News):
"We have a script and songs written for it but Joss keeps making these gagillion dollar movies."
However, Joss Whedon has recently announced that he will be directing Avengers 3: Infinity War Part 1-2. With Neil Patrick Harris no longer bound to HIMYM and Nathan Fillion’s Castle not yet renewed, could we be seeing Dr. Horrible 2 anytime soon?
