Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was officially charged with desertion, and misbehaving before the enemy, crimes for which he could be could face in prison if he is found guilty. Bergdahl was held captive in Afghanistan for five years after mysterly leaving his post. The search for Bowe reportedly lead to death of some brave American soldiers. Bowe was brought home last year after President Barack Obama released five Taliban prisoners from Guantanamo in exchange from his freedom. Now Sgt. Bergdahl has released a statement detailing some of his experiences while in captivity.
In his newly released statement Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl described some of what he experienced during his five years in captivity, writing (via Washington Post):
“I was kept in constant isolation during the entire 5 years, with little to no understanding of time, through constant periods of constant darkness, periods of constant light, and periods of completely random flickering of light….Absolutely no understanding of anything that was happening beyond the door I was held behind.”
