Nintendo Announces New System NX After Wii U Failure: Mario and Link Coming To Mobile Smartphone iPhone and Android? [UPDATE]

Lets face it, as awesome as it was, the Nintendo Wii U has fell short of expectations and is widely considered to be a failure. However, things are soon going to turn around for the gaming giant. Nintendo’s stock is rising thanks in part to the recent announcement that company will making mobile games. That is right, Mario, Link and all of Nintendo’s all-star characters could be making their way to your iPhone and Android devices very soon. However, the big news about Nintendo this week is not just about smartphone/tablet play, but about the recent announcement of the new system, codenamed, NX.

Nintendo recently announced that it was not only working on smartphone gaming but also a brand new system codenamed NX. Chief Executive Satoru Iwata, made the announcement of the system to confirm that the the company will not lose its focus on hardware, stating (via Wired):

“Nintendo maintains strong enthusiasm for the dedicated game system business...I wanted to communicate that Nintendo will be progressing with videogame-dedicated devices with a passion. We wanted to make it clear that Nintendo will continue with that as our core business.”

Iwata gave few details about the new system, except to say:

“It will become important for us to accurately take advantage of what we have done with the Wii U architecture. It of course does not mean that we are going to use exactly the same architecture as Wii U, but we are going to create a system that can absorb the Wii U architecture adequately. When this happens, home consoles and handheld devices will no longer be completely different, and they will become like brothers in a family of systems.”
