Epitomizing the semantic war in Hollywood right now over the true definition of feminism, Divergent action hero and Instagram feet model, Shailene Woodley, is doubling down on her insistence that she not be saddled with the provocative label. While Emma Watson is urging women the world over to invite men into the movement, the Fault in Our Stars starlet is telling her fans not to subscribe to any labels. According to the latest gossip news updates, Whiplash Oscar nominee, Miles Teller, is happy the Theo James was cast as Tris boyfriend in Insurgent and not him. The Veronica Roth baddie claims that he would rather have the more interesting role than the bigger part regardless of how popular the film is undoubted going to be.
Shailene Woodley drew some criticism from her fellow female celebs when she denounced feminism last year as a being as much about divisiveness as it is empowerment.
During a recent interview for Nylon Magazine's April Issue, the 22-year-old explained that, more than anything, her aversion to being called a feminist has more to do with not being put into an easily defined box than it doesn't any disagreement about social or political issues (via Time):
"The reason why I don't like to say that I am a feminist or I am not a feminist is because to me it's still a label.
"I do not want to be defined by one thing. Why do we have to have that label to divide us?
"We should all be able to embrace one another regardless of our belief system and regardless of the labels that we have put upon ourselves."
Likewise, Woodley explained in the March 30, issue of Star Magazine that she was determined to bring that same sense of independence to her portrayal of Tris in Insurgent:
"Strong people try to influence Tris.
"She listens to all of them, but at the end of the day, she honors her own integrity and listens to her own voice.
"And that's how it should be...Being yourself takes a lot of guts."
As great as the movie critics all seem to agree Shailene is in the sequel, Miles Teller is claiming that he is happy that the role playing opposite the charismatic heroine went to Theo James, instead of himself.
In an interview with Huffington Post, Whiplash's breakout star insisted that he was happier to be playing the more complex and relatable role to the Underworld star's cookie cutter action hero:
"At this point, I'm happy that I'm Peter and not Four.
"He's doing a ton of action and other stuff. To me, I want to play the most interesting character for me.
"If I were to get a script...and this one guy is the leader of the group but I think another guy is more interesting, I'd have no problem doing that."
Yeah...whatever gets you through the night.
