It is a good time to be a Ghostbusters fan. Sony has just revealed that there will be an all new, all male Ghostbusters 3 film, following the all female reboot. The new films, starring Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, and Kate McKinnon, will open up the new universe. Follow Paul Feig’s 2016 girl powered reboot, will be another team, produced and possible starring Magic Mike star Channing Tatum. Sony is also crossing over to Marvel Universe to find the right team of writers, directors and producers. Marvel's Captain America 3: Civil War directors, the Russo Brothers, are scheduled to direct the new movie with Iron Man 3’s Drew Pearce, writing the script. Dan Aykroyd and original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman are leading it all with a new production company known as Ghostcorps.
Deadline spoke with originals Ghostbusters producer/director about the new reboots:
“We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment. This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy.
“Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come.
Original Ghostbusters writer and actor, Dan Aykroyd, recently opened up to Sirius XM’s Unmasked with Ron Bennington, about his plans for a third film (via The Interro Bang):
“There’s three drafts of the old concept that exists. And we’re going to be able to salvage some of it and use it. Yeah, we’re gonna be able to use it some day. Let’s get this one made and that will reinvigorate the franchise and then we’ll go on to maybe doing a more conventional third sequel as we were planning and another idea I have for it.”
