Despite the recent legal troubles of her soon-to-be ex-husband, Paula Patton, who posed topless for Vanity Fair after the split, recently told Robin Roberts on Good Morning America that in a way she was happy that her marriage to Robin Thicke fell apart the way that it did. According to the latest gossip news update, Thicke has far worse news to contend with this week, however, than his wife talking about him on a day time talk show.. The jury in his lawsuit with Pharrell Williams and T.I came down in favor of Marvin Gaye's family yesterday -- awarding $7.4 million in damages for not giving credit to "Got to Give It Up" as the inspiration for their hit "Blurred Lines".
It is shaping up to be a rough week for Canadian crooner Robin Thicke following the recent court decision declaring that he along writing partner Pharrell Williams illegal stole parts of Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give Up" to make there single "Blurred Lines".
Of the overall $7.4 million, Williams has been ordered to pay $1.6 million with $1.77 million coming from Thicke, who also admittedly lied about the role he played in writing the song with Pharrell while the song was still charting.
Lawyer for the Gaye family, Richard Busch, told ABC News that despite their elaborate argument and Thicke's under oath piano medley, it was plainly evident that the songwriters were mere plagiarists:
"Throughout this case, they made comments about how this was about a groove and how this was about an era and how this was about a genre.
"It wasn't. It was about the copying of 'Got to Give it Up.'"
As if that weren't bad enough, Thicke almost-ex-wife, Paula Patton, also went on Good Morning America and told Robin Roberts that in a way -- now that she's happy again -- she is glad things didn't work out with Robin (via E! News):
"I'm doing really well.
"I mean, the honest truth is it has been challenging, but it's been a year of growth, lots of healing, learning about all new things, but I've come out of it stronger.
"My son's happy...And I'm very -- you know, I feel like everything happens for a reason.
"And then you have to move on and grow from there."
Paula went on to explain that more than anything she appreciates the lessons their breakup has taught her about dealing with the tragedy of living:
"It's so easy for us to focus on the negative things, but usually, the positive in your life outweighs that.
"The thing is you can't wallow in sadness or stay in bed when you have a child
"And they're so full of life and wonder. And he brings me so much joy."
Marvin Gaye's daughter, Nona, told the Associated Press that she also feels free to move on with her live, now that Pharrell and Robin Thicke have been thoroughly discredited (via ABC News):
"Right now, I feel free...free from Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke's chains and what they tried to keep on us and the lies that were told."
Well...she's not the only one.
