Rumors are flying this week that Brian Williams, who is currently suspended from his main gig over telling lies about war, could be replacing Jon Stewart when the comedian officially retires from Daily Show.
The rumors originated shortly after it was revealed that Mr. Williams has had his sights set on late night television for quite some time.
Not only has Brian enjoyed his countless talk show appearances, some of which even feature him fake-rapping the news, but he reportedly wants a show of his very own.
Many are aware that Mr. Williams attempted to take over the Tonight Show when Jay Leno left. However, Brian's ambition didn't end there either.
According to CNN Money, author Gabriel Sherman has revealed that Brian Williams wanted to replace David Letterman as well:
"The new account about The Late Show with David Letterman adds to the intrigue...Sherman writes: 'Williams pitched CBS (CBS) CEO Les Moonves about succeeding David Letterman, according to a high-level source, but Moonves wasn't interested.'"
Unfortunately, that's not the only reason that Brian finds himself in the news.
The once much-loved anchor finds himself in a bit of a freefall after it was revealed that he embellished major elements of his war coverage. As a result of his actions, Mr. Williams is presently serving out a six-month suspension.
NBC didn't just remove Williams from the air, they are all so conducting an independent investigation about the matter.
There is some good news to report, however. According to a recent poll by Quinnipiac, a majority of Americans want to see Williams return to the news (via Huffington Post):
""Brian Williams should be allowed to come back as NBC Nightly News anchor, voters say 42 - 35 percent...FOX News' Bill O'Reilly should be fired over allegations of inaccuracies in past reporting, 12 percent of voters say...For 19 percent of voters, Tina Fey is the top choice to replace Jon Stewart...7 percent each for Brian Williams and Craig Ferguson and 5 percent for Chelsea Handler."
What do you think about the results? Do you support Brian Williams returning to NBC, or should he be fired? Do you even have an opinion about the broadcaster?
