Bill DeMott had a very respectable career in professional wrestling. In recent news, he has retired from the sport after controversial claims of bullying, abuse and homophobic harassment. At first, it was reported that the WWE wanted to see if the smoke would clear and let the storm blow over. In the end, however, it became clear that too many wrestlers would not stand for his continued employment.
Before his time as a trainer, Bill gained a lot of popularity for his time with World Championship Wrestling. Then, like so many before him, he switched between several different promotions.
After finally making it to the WWE, it became clear that his time as an actual wrester was over.
Instead, he switched over to the role of trainer. Since then, he has partnered with many successful performers, and has stacked an impressive list of achievements.
According to Cage Side Seats, though, that time has come to an end:
"Regarding the Bill DeMott situation, while WWE apparently planned to let it blow over when it became clear the story wasn't going to blow over and more and more wrestlers were going to speak out against him the decision was made that he would step down. [Reports say] that he is completely done with the company in the sense that he no longer has any role there at all. It's also being said that plenty of developmental talents were happy to see him go."
It's always sad to see someone who has achieved so much leave a sport.
Yet, according to the Washington Post, no tears are going to be shed over Demott's departure:
"WWE trainer Bill DeMott has resigned as head coach of WWE's Performance Center, effective immediately. DeMott made the announcement via Twitter on Friday afternoon, amid allegations from several former WWE wrestlers claiming he propagated an atmosphere of abuse and harassment that included him freely using racist and homophobic slurs...the first wrestler to go public with allegations of extreme bullying from DeMott...Judas Devlin in NXT..."
