Scarlett Johansson and Este Haim's New Group The Singles Hit With Cease-and-Desist Order

Actress Scarlett Johansson’s new music venture may not be going as smoothly as she had hoped. Johansson’s new band with Este Haim, The Singles, was slapped with a cease-and-desist order just weeks after the group's debut after a previously existing band claimed the name.

Singer Vincent Frederick said his band, The Singles, have been around for more than 15 years and have been using the same name.

"I woke up one morning and learned from the news that our band name was literally just taken by someone else as their own," Frederick said in a statement. "It's hard to believe that any musician would do something like that to another band. The Singles has been my life for the past 16 years. We have worked so incredibly hard to make it a success.”

Frederick also claimed the group is present on social media with multiple accounts and their music is available at record stores and through iTunes and on the Internet.

Rabeh Soofi, an attorney who represents Frederick's band, told The Hollywood Reporter that her clients "issued a cease-and-desist demand to representatives of Scarlett Johansson, Este Haim, Julia Haltigan, Holly Miranda, Kendra Morris and Dave Sitek, demanding that they discontinue using 'The Singles' as a band name and mark, given its continuous use by my clients The Singles for more than 15 years."

Soofi also said the group has an extensive repertoire of albums, LPs, EPs and singles along with an extensive touring history.

Johansson’s group just released their first song “Candy” through SoundCloud and are currently signed to Federal Prism, run by TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek. It is unknown if Johansson will be changing the name of the band at this time.
