Today, there was an update to the Lauren Spierer case. The missing student’s parents are suing the last three men she was spotted with.
In June 2011, Ms. Spierer was reported missing by her roommate. She was just 20-years-old when she disappeared from Indiana University.
Lauren spent the night getting drunk and partying in Bloomington. Ms. Spierer, who was last seen drinking with three men downtown, never made it home to her apartment building.
Despite receiving over 3,000 different tips, no clues were ever discovered by the police. Now, the parent’s of the missing girl are taking actions into their own hands.
New York natives, Rob and Charlene Spierer, are suing Corey Rossman, Jason Rosenbaum and Michael Beth, who they believe contributed to her death. The lawsuit states their inaction lead to her disappearance:
"Spierer's abandonment in an intoxicated and disoriented state in the early morning hours of June 3, 2011, in an area known for criminal acts contributed to her disappearance, and presumed injuries and death."
The family’s attorney states that the Spierers were reluctant in filing this suit, but had to inorder to maintain certain rights:
"Any parent in search of information about a missing child would use every resource available to them," the statement said. "Therefore, we intend to use the rights afforded by the civil justice system to obtain answers to questions that have gone unanswered for too long. We fully expect that those with relevant information will cooperate with this process."
Of the three gentleman being sued, the lawsuit seems to focus on Rossman the most:
"At least one witness observed that as Spierer entered Kilroy's [area bar] she appeared intoxicated, had trouble standing and relied on Rossman's assistance to walk," according to the suit. "Rossman purchased, provided and helped Spierer consume multiple additional alcoholic beverages."
Stay tuned as we will be updating this story as more information is known.
