Over the years, Josh Hamilton has proven to be one of the A's top players. However, he has also shown that he has a problem with self-control, drugs and partying. In recent news, Hamilton recently admitted to yet another drug relapse. Sources have said that the MLB is currently in the middle of disciplinary hearings, in order to determine his future in the league. Also, another source has pointed out that -- even if he does get to play again -- he will have to prove himself worthy of all the trouble.
Before his time as a professional, Hamilton played ball for Athens Drive High School. He was considered one of the top league prospects for the 1999 Draft. As expected, the Tampa Bay Rays picked him with the first overall pick straight out of High School.
Now, as most of you know, he plays for the A's, and he is one of the team's biggest names. Overall, he is a 5-time All-Star, and he was named the American Leagues MVP in 2010.
However, his pro-ball career has been peppered with controversy and scandal. According to a report by ESPN, the onetime great is at it again:
"Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton suffered a drug relapse involving the use of cocaine and alcohol in the offseason...Hamilton has a well-documented history of substance abuse problems dating to his days in the minor leagues when he was suspended from baseball from February 2004 to June 2006 for issues related to cocaine and alcohol addiction ...The Angels confirmed that he met with MLB officials in New York on Wednesday about a disciplinary issue but offered no specifics as to the nature of any offense..."
There is no telling what kind of punishment or suspension Josh will face after his recent relapse. However, as was pointed out by the LA Times, Hamilton has more than that to worry about:
"[While] his teammates assembled for the first time this season on Wednesday, Josh Hamilton sat in a meeting room in New York, in street clothes, his baseball future on the line...He last wore an Angels uniform on Oct. 5, three weeks after his last hit, Whenever Hamilton plays again -- and depending on how much he has left to offer -- he should have yet another chance, for yet another improbable comeback story."
