Kelly Rutherford, Gossip Girl star, is filing for bankruptcy. Her net worth was totally depleted after her divorce and bitter custody battle.
Kelly’s legal fees were tremendous. According to E News:
“The mother of two owes a whopping $1 million toward her child-custody legal bill, $21,000 to a forensic psychologist for her custody battle, $46,792 for child custody appeals, $202,829 to one of her head lawyers in the child-custody case and $67,856 to another clinical child psychologist—just to name a few.”
Ms. Rutherford, as part of the filing, had to list her remaining assets. Court documents say Rutherford has $12,000 in checking, $10,000 in furniture and just $1,500 in jewelry.
That’s not great, considering the fact that she owes nearly $40,000 in back taxes. She also has a staggering AMEX bill that totals over $25,000.
Kelly Rutherford released the following statement concerning her current financials:
"I said, 'I don't want any money, I don't want anything, let's figure out a great plan for the kids.’ The relationship was obviously not working. And, four years later this is where I am. I’ve spent every penny. Every penny from Gossip Girl, my pension, my stocks has been spent fighting for my children.”
Kelly also discussed what the trial was like:
"How do you end up in court pregnant, getting ready to get divorced? I went in with very high hopes, I was madly in love. I'm thankful to him for our beautiful children, but I think I didn't realize you could litigate against someone like this."
