Rihanna, pop-singing icon, has officially surpassed Justin Bieber in terms of views on YouTube. What is it about her love songs that allowed her to beat out the, as of late, rude boy--is it Chris Brown?
Tuesday, June 8, will be a day Rihanna remembers for quite some time. It was then that the starlet surpassed Justin Bieber, in terms of total views, on YouTube--a feat that has never occurred.
Rihanna, who received a ton of press following her Chris Brown altercation, has 77 videos on her official VEVO channel. The Biebs has over 79.
That didn't stop her from overtaking his lead. As of Tuesday, the singer has combined views of 7.8 billion...yes, that's BILLION.
But why, or better yet, how?
The answer is a pretty simple one--subscribers. Billboard Magazine sets the story straight in their latest article:
"Rihanna surpassing Bieber's popularity on YouTube is largely due to the size of her subscriber base. Rihanna has 8.73 million subscribers on the platform, 3.7 million more than Bieber's 4.9 million. This means that while the average Bieber fan is much more engaged than Rihanna's, Rihanna has much broader reach as an artist and is therefore able to secure more view counts to her name over time."
YouTube isn't the only social media platform where Rihanna dominates. She beats the Biebs on Facebook too...by about 20 million. On Twitter, however, Justin takes the cake. He doesn't just beat Rihanna, he also beats every other person on the platform.
