Katie Holmes shared a candid moment about experiencing a sudden mental block while performing in the Broadway production of "Our Town."
She is currently performing as Mrs. Webb in the Thornton Wilder play.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, the former "Dawson's Creek" star shared, "I was in the middle of a scene and I just ... I said the whole line except the last word and I couldn't, I couldn't remember it."
"I made something up, but it didn't make sense and then I got so red ... and I got flustered, so I just said my lines so fast after that and got off stage."
The "First Daughter" actress also revealed a quirky superstition she follows before performing on stage: reciting her lines three times.
She believes this routine brings her good luck, but the one time she skipped it, everything went wrong.
Fortunately, her co-star Jim Parsons was by her side to offer comfort and support during the mishap.
"Jim gave me a hug after. He was like, 'I've never seen anyone say their lines so fast and remove themselves!'"
This is Holmes first time to return in 12 years following her debut in the 2008 revival of "All My Sons and her role in the 2012 play "Dead Accounts."
Holmes emphasized the significance of "Our Town" as a unique and special production in her career.
"It's like a dream job," she revealed. "And I love this play. It's been done so many times. ... Our director said this is Our Town for our time. And so it's a bit of a reimagining but the script is, obviously, still the same."
