"Gwyneth Goes Skiing," a musical based on the one part of the life of actress Gwyneth Paltrow, is set to premiere in the United States following its triumphant performances in London.
Presented by Awkward Productions, Variety reported that the upcoming production is set to travel through various cities, including Utah, where the GOOP entrepreneur was involved in a skiing mishap, along with performances in Los Angeles, New York, before headed to Canada, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and continental Europe.
This musical performance dives into Paltrow's legal battle with optician Terry Sanderson stemming from a skiing accident in 2016. While skiing at Deer Valley Resort in Utah, Paltrow collided with the retired optometrist at a gentle slope for beginners.
Sanderson claimed that the "Glee" actress had collided with him from the rear in a reckless manner, resulting in serious injuries such as a traumatic brain injury, four fractured ribs, and ongoing emotional turmoil.
He further alleged that she left the scene without extending any assistance, characterizing the incident as a "hit-and-run."
In a legal battle that unfolded last year, Sanderson took Paltrow to court seeking $3.1 million. Eventually, he revised his claim to $300,000. Paltrow, on the other hand, argued that Sanderson was to blame, even going as far as shouting in court, "You skied directly into my effing back!" She retaliated by filing a counterclaim for one dollar and legal fees. Notably, she testified that she missed out on half a day of skiing due to the incident, and the jury ultimately ruled in her favor.
Starting in Utah in January 2025, the production "Gwyneth Goes Skiing" will feature a talented ensemble. Leland's original music sets the stage, complemented by the vocals of Darren Criss and Cat Cohen.
Trixie Mattel is also joining the cast and will portray Paltrow's mother, Blythe Danner.
