Broadway is welcoming Jonathan Groff back as he returns to the stage next year.
Variety reported that the upcoming musical production "Just In Time" will feature the lead role of Tony award-winning actor, portraying Bobby Darin. It will be developed and directed by Alex Timbers.
Heading the ensemble of 16 performers, Groff will take charge of narrating the life of the talented singer-songwriter who tragically passed away from heart disease at 37 in 1973.
Darin was a multifaceted artist who excelled in jazz, pop, rock and roll, folk, swing, and country music.
The stage at Circle in the Square Theatre will reportedly undergo a remarkable transformation, with the outlet describing it as "an intimate and immersive night club, complete with a live band and ensemble of 16."
The upcoming production is said to showcase a lineup of songs, including hits such as "Just in Time," "Splish Splash," "Beyond the Sea," "Mack the Knife," and "Dream Lover."
"Bobby Darin was a supernova," a statement to THR said. "He blazed his way through every corner of the entertainment industry, but his enormous talent, charisma, and pure genius were most on display when he was letting it rip in front of a crowd."
"This primal passionate love affair he had with the audience was the inspiration for our show's conceit."
"[Timber's] distinctive ability to make going to the theater an unforgettable event and Bobby's signature musicality and explosive fleeting life make Broadway the perfect place to experience the story and essence of this once in a lifetime talent."
Previews start on March 25, 2025 and opening night will be on April 23, 2024.
This timing aligns perfectly with the deadline for consideration at the upcoming 2025 Tony Awards.
