Russell Wilson is easily one of the most discussed newcomers in the NFL. His impressive performance and stats have turned the young athlete into one of the league's most efficient team leaders. Now, Wilson's contract obligation with the Seahawks has almost been met, and it's time for renegotiations to take place. Wilson is paid significantly less than other quarterbacks, so could the powerhouse be looking for a new team? These questions follow multiple Super Bowl appearances and one of the most surprising divorces football fans have seen.
Before his time as a professional, Wilson played college baseball and football for the University of North Carolina. Then, in the 2011 season, he transferred to the University of Wisconsin.
During his time there, he racked up an impressive list of accomplishments. He set the single season FBs record for passing efficiency, he led his team to the 2012 Rose Bowl, he was named Big Ten Quarterback of the Year, and he was nominated as All-American.
His consistent performances earned him spot with the Seattle Seahawks in the 2012 NFL Draft. Since then, he has been one of the league's most dominant performers. According to My Northwest, Wilson contract is about to run out, and his future is uncertain:
"Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is eligible for a contract extension this offseason, having just completed the three years of NFL service time that are required before making alterations to a rookie deal...after leading Seattle to two Super Bowls, and notching more regular-season victories than any quarterback in his first three seasons since 1966, the bill has come due. It's just a matter of how hefty that bill is going to be."
True, the Seahawks will probably do whatever it takes to keep their star player. However, based on a report by Seattle PI, Wilson is no stranger to surprising splits:
"In many of his off-field appearances, you see Wilson with his wife, Ashton, at the ESPY awards show, Children's Hospital and even at Marymoor Park when they tried to help an owner find her lost dog. But Wilson's the one who gave us the story, issuing a statement, surely knowing that word would soon get out anyway with constant questions of, "Where's Ashton?" What in the world happened? Aren't you the least bit curious? Was there another woman? Another man?"
What do you think happened? Do you think Russell Wilson will be traded? What team would you like to see him with? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
