Deucy, a baby kitten born yesterday, has some pretty unusual features. Most notably, she has two faces.
Despite her facial abnormality, the kitten's health is currently in good standing. Pet owner, Stephanie Durkee, rushed the special kitty to her local vet. Surprisingly, this was not the vet's first case involving an animal with multiple heads.
While situations like this are very rare, it's not the first time a cat has been born with multiple faces. Sadly, many die within a few hours or days.
It appears that Deucy may stand a fighting chance. Her vet records indicate that her organs are precisely where they need to be and are functioning normally.
This is very rare for a Janus cat--the name commonly given to two headed kitties. However, it is not totally unheard of for a Janus cat to survive.
In 2011, Guinness Book of World Records inducted the longest living Janus cat. The 12 year old oddity is named Frankelouie.
While the prospects of Deucy's survival is optimistic, there is a notable threat to her survival.
As is the case with most animals who possess some abnormality, she is being shunned by her mother. This is a common theme in the animal kingdom.
But, that's not going to stop Deucy's owner from doing everything she can to save the miracle furball. Mrs. Durkee is taking extra special precautions to care for the unique creature.
First, Mrs. Durkee is having to constantly evaluate the cat's temperature, making sure to keep her a warm as a momma cat would.
Additionally, Deucy has to feed the animal with an eye-dropper, as the mother will not allow the babe to feed.
