Melissa McCarthy, breakout star from Bridesmaids, looks a lot slimmer these days. Unfortunately, that's because it's totally fake. The movie poster for The Heat has found itself in hot water.
McCarthy is quickly becoming a big name in comedy. The comedienne is funny, witty and, let's face it, large.
This has never been an issue for the actress... until now.
Melissa is co-starring with Sandra Bullock in the upcoming comedy The Heat. The two appear as buddy cops in the Paul Feig directed flick.
The controversy doesn't center around the film itself. McCarthy is in all of her splendorous glory, running...or doing what she calls running... after bad guys.
The problems stem from the marketing department. In what is probably the worst photoshop job in the history of editing, McCarthy is virtually unrecognizable in the layout.
Suspicion arose first in London, thanks to the British-owned site The Shiznit. Fans, who quickly noticed the near-jawless McCarthy, quickly submitted photos of the poster.
Ali Gray, who is the editor of The Shiznit, posted a statement to accompany the photos:
"This is one of the worst Photoshop jobs I have ever seen, but it's not just offensively bad craftsmanship--the intention behind it is downright nasty."
He wasn't the only one commenting. Christie Brinkley, when speaking to Entertainment Tonight, issued the following statement:
"I've been photoshopped before," she said. "I think it's kind of weird to do that with actors because obviously you can't photoshop a movie and you're going to be seeing the actors as they are in the movie; you get to know actors and you just love them the way they are . . . we all love Melissa McCarthy just the way she is."
It has since been confirmed that the U.S. posters have been edited as well. The studio who financed the film is now under heavy scrutiny, especially here in the States.
