Joel Madden, of 'The Voice' and Good Charlotte, Net Worth Going Down in Australia Since Marijuana Bust

Currently filming The Voice Australia, Joel Madden didn't have a great weekend in Australia.

After being busted by Aussie police for the possession of marijuana, the heavily tattooed singer (who also fronts the pop punk band Good Charlotte with his twin brother Benji), now finds himself face-to-face with Sydney's curious drug laws.

With both his net worth and lifestyle in jeopardy, the richer and more famous Madden bro might want to reconsider his behavior.

So, how does a big time celeb like Joel get busted for weed? The answer may surprise you.

Brother Joel has been in the land down under for most of the summer, shooting a spin-off of the popular U.S. singing show. And as it turns out, it was the maid, in his hotel room, with a phone--no, that isn't someone playing a game of Clue.

After the maid, whose name is currently withheld, called the authorities, a search warrant was issued at 10:30 p.m.

What was the maid even doing in his room that late? Well, that's a question that remains unanswered.

What is known, however, is how much weed was in Madden's possession at The Darling Hotel: a mere 5 grams' worth.

Charges have not been filed against Madden, nor will they. New South Wales' laws state that an individual possessing less than 15 grams should just receive a cautionary action.

Still, Madden was kicked out of the hotel he has been living in for months. The manager of The Darling Hotel spoke briefly to the press:

"In Australia, there is zero tolerance for this no matter where you are. He was not afforded any special treatment, and he's moved out," the manager informed the Daily Mail.
