Warren Sapp is known for having a consistently impressive and occasionally controversial career in professional football. After a Super Bowl victory, bankruptcy, multiple scandals and an induction in the NFL Hall of Fame, Sapp could be one of the most diverse players the league has ever seen. Recently, Sapp was arrested in the "early morning hours" for the solicitation of a prostitute and the assault of two escorts. Sources have suggested that the incident caused the onetime great to be fired from the NFL Network.
Before his time as a professional, Sapp played college ball for the University of Miami. During his time there, he was recognized as a consensus All-American and won multiple awards.
With the 12th overall pick, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers brought Sapp to the big leagues during the 1995 NFL Draft. He stayed with Tampa for nine seasons. During that time, he made multiple trips to the Pro Bowl and even led his team to a Super Bowl Championship in 2002.
In the very first year of his eligibility, 2013, Warren was inducted in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
That same year, he was awarded with the Buccaneers Ring of Honor. At that time, he was known as a controversial individual, and now, based on a report by Yahoo Sports, those in charge of his induction might be regretting their decision:
"In the early morning hours before NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp's arrest on assault and solicitation of prostitution charges, hotel guests at the Phoenix downtown Renaissance awoke to what they believed to be an argument and physical altercation in a hotel hallway...a source with details of Sapp's arrest [said] that sometime around 2:30 a.m. guests reported hearing an argument followed by objects banging...When guests opened doors to see the disturbance, one [woman was] on the floor with apparent marks associated with a physical altercation..."
As is indicative of their reputation, the NFL took no time in distancing themselves from the situation. According to TMZ Sports, Sapp was fired after admitting his involvement:
"The NFL Network has fired Sapp. He'd been with the network since 2008. Cops say two women told police they were at the hotel 'as escorts' and an argument broke out over money...the argument turned physical and spilled out into the hallway. Cops say the women had injuries consistent with a struggle. When cops questioned Sapp, 'he...admitted involvement in the act of prostitution, but denied assaulting the females.'"
