Sarah Jessica Parker, former Sex and the City thoroughbred, will have a foot in actually designing a line of shoes for once. Not horsing around, the celebrity has giddied up with George Malkemus to launch her upcoming brand SJP.
Sex and the City was, by all accounts, a huge hit. The show ran for six years on HBO, had two movies made about it and one spin-off that aired earlier this year.
Sarah Jessica's portrayal of Carrie Bradshaw, fashion addict, was a major part of that success. So, it is of no surprise that Parker is hopping on the barnwagon by launching her own line.
To help her achieve this goal, Parker has sought out renowned fashion jockey George Malkemus (no relation to Stephen). Malkemus, who was mentioned frequently by Bradshaw on the hit show, will be assisting Parker in creating not just shoes, but also handbags.
The brand will be called simply SJP, after Parker's own name. The price, however, is not so digestible.
For basic, single-sole pumps and flats, customers can expect to pay a whopping $250. And what would it take for you to buy your very own SJP purse? That will rock you a staggering $750.
This seems a bit much. Jessica Simpson, who has the largest celebrity (waist) line of anyone, has shoes that cost under $100.
Why the price difference? For one, Parker is planning on designing and creating all of the shoes in Europe and New York City--not China.
Sarah Jessica Parker talked about this and her equine design inspirations in Vogue.
"We're putting new colors together that people don't typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet...And in terms of bags, thinking about that period of the seventies into the eighties, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag."
