Michael Jackson may have called himself the King of Pop, but really...he was just the King of Tabloids. From disastrous plastic surgery to allegations of child molestation, he seemed to always make news.
Sadly, it appears that his 15-year-old daughter, Paris Jackson, is following suit. Paris was taken to a hospital near her Calabasas home on Wednesday, in what appears to have been a suicide attempt. At 1:27 a.m., a call was made to 911 suggesting Paris had overdosed.
Her mother, Debbie Rowe, gave an exclusive to Entertainment Tonight, where she confirmed that her daughter attempted to kill herself by cutting her wrists and taking 20 Motrin. Allegedly, this was in response to not being allowed to attend a Marilyn Manson concert.
That may be the first time in history, someone tried to kill themselves because they didn't listen to Marilyn Manson's music. Regardless of the reason, followers of Jackson's Twitter account sensed the coming downward spiral. In the days leading up to her suicide attempt, she tweeted some pretty concerning things:
They get worse over the next day. Paris Jackson's last tweet was a quote from the Beatles "Yesterday."
While this is all a little troubling, it is important to remember that Paris is a 15-year-old who has had a unusual and traumatic childhood. From her father dying to her grandmother disappearing and all of the other gossip and in-fighting that surrounds the Jackson clan, life has been difficult.
It's hard enough being a young adult, even one that doesn't have the Jackson baggage. That's the point that her grandmother's attorney was trying to make to the Associated Press. Katherine Jackson's legal team issued the following statement on behalf of their client:
"Being a sensitive 15 year old is difficult no matter who you are. It is especially difficult when you lose the person closest to you. Paris is physically fine and is getting appropriate medical attention. Please respect her privacy and the family's privacy."
Hopefully, Paris Jackson will be able to achieve the sense of privacy that her father never could; however, things aren't off to a great start.
