This weekend’s box office results are in and once again Bradley Cooper’s American Sniper killed it. However, Johnny Depp and Gwyneth Paltrow’s new comedy Mortdecai under performed at the box office, making it one of Depp’s biggest bombs ever. Has America stopped caring about Johnny Depp?
Bradley Cooper’s American Sniper has won the box office war for the second week in a row. The film, directed by Clint Eastwood, earned an impressive $64.3 million over the weekend for a grand North American total of $200 million collective, figuring in the film’s earlier limited release. That more than makes up the movie’s 58.8 million budget.
The film has been nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Actor Bradley Cooper.
American Sniper also stars Sienna Miller, Kyle Gallner, Sam Jaeger, Jake McDorman, and 50 Shades of Grey’s Luke Grimes.
Johnny Depp and Gwyneth Paltrow’s comedy Mortdecai has fallen way beyond expectation, earning only 4.125 million for its opening weekend in North America. That is far less than the $60 million budget.
The movie also star Ewan McGregor, Olivia Munn, Jeff Goldblum, Paul Bettany, and Parks and Rec star Aubrey Plaza.
