It is one of the most successful movies at the box office. It has been nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor Bradley Cooper. It has sparked a Twitter feud between The Interview star Seth Rogen and virtually every conservative celebrity. However, at its core American Sniper is the emotional story of real life Navy Seal Chris Kyle. Kyle, who is considered America’s most lethal sniper in American history, with over 160 confirmed kills. Kyle was tragically shot dead in 2013 by a young man who he was trying to help who was possibly suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. Bradley Cooper’s portrayal of Chris Kyle has earned him various acclaim including an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
Cooper gained 40-pounds of muscle for the role, telling Mens Health about the process:
“I had to get to the point where I believed I was him. At 185 pounds, it would’ve been a joke. His size was such a part of who he was...Chris wasn’t ripped,” Cooper says. “He wasn’t sinewy. He was just a bear.”
