NBC is getting ready to launch an all new action/drama series, Allegiance (starring Gavin Stenhouse) this February, as part of an all new Thursday night line-up. Allegiance will be joined by the hit James Spader series The Blacklist in all new effort by the network to rebrand the night. However, the new series is already coming under fire for having a similar to FX’s Russian sleeper cell spy drama The Americans. Now the show’s EP is opening up about the comparison.
Katherine Heigl's new drama State of Affairs has been compared to ABC’s Scandal, and now Allegiance is being, sight-unseen, compared to FX’s The Americans.
Both The Americans and Allegiance feature russian sleeper cells. However, executive producer George Nolfi believes that the comparison ends there. Nolfi recently told reporters during last week’s TCA press event about how Allegiance differs from The Americans (via Entertainment Weekly):
“Watch one or two episodes ands it’s pretty clear we’re going in a different direction. This is fundamentally a family drama [about a family] who do not want to be spies. They face the possibility of death from the SVR or life imprisonment at hands of the U.S.”
Allegiance premieres Thursday February 5 on NBC at 10:00 p.m. eastern.
