Carmelo Anthony is one of the biggest forces to be reckoned with in the NBA. However, he recently missed six games due to a knee injury. He just played his first game since December of last year, and even though he led the Knicks with 25 points, it still wasn't enough to defeat the Bucks. In 2014, one site summarized Anthony's impressive professional record, and it reflects a much different athlete than we are currently seeing.
Before his time in the NBA, Anthony played college ball for the Syracuse University. During his freshman year, he led his team to their first National Championship.
Also, he was named the Most Outstanding Player in one NCAA tournament. After making it to the big leagues, Carmelo achieved some very respectable goals.
To top it all off, Anthony's skill has earned him multiple gold medals as a member of the United States' Olympic Basketball team.
Fans have come to think of his outstanding performances as a routine thing. However, according to ESPN, Carmelo didn't do enough to pull off a win in his 2015 debut:
"O.J. Mayo scored 22 points, Brandon Knight had 20 points and six steals, and the Bucks routed New York 95-79 on Thursday night, extending the Knicks' franchise-record losing streak to 16. The return of Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire did little to spark New York. Anthony led the Knicks with 25 points. Stoudemire was scoreless in 8 first-half minutes and didn't play after the break. Anthony missed the previous six games because of a knee problem."
This is actually quite shocking, and there might be reason to worry that Anthony is starting to slip. Based on the report of a different ESPN reporter, the current Carmelo Anthony is almost a shell of his former self:
"His professional life has brought Anthony many things: a wife, a son, seven NBA All-Star Games, a scoring title, a couple of Olympic gold medals and, yes, ridiculous amounts of money. He just signed a five-year contract with the Knicks worth $124 million, forgoing a better chance to win a quick NBA title with the Bulls and instead staying with a lesser team that offered a longer, more lucrative deal."
