Michael Sam Doesn't Regret Coming Out as Openly Gay, Despite NFL Backlash?

Michael Sam has been a hot topic since he became the first openly gay player to be drafted into the NFL. The fact that he was cut from both teams that signed him, has fans wondering if his homosexuality was the reason for his dismissal. After being dismissed, he did an interview with Oprah, where Sam announced that he believes he made the right decision. In recent news, Sam and boyfriend Vito have been posting pics all over Instagram that prove the two of them do not plan on changing who they are for a chance in the NFL.

In college, Michael proved himself time and time again. He looked like yet another up-and-comer who would have a long and successful career as a professional football player. As a senior, he even earned the title of Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

In turn, it made perfect since when Sam was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in 2014. What didn't make sense, however, was when he was cut from the team. Even though many felt his performance was clearly up to snuff, he was still let go.

That's when Sam realized that his dismissal was probably due to the fact that he is openly gay.

The decision to come out has virtually ruined Sam's chances in the NFL, but according to Sports Illustrated, Sam stated in an interview with Oprah that he felt he made the right decision:

"In a TV documentary with Oprah Winfrey that aired [in December], Michael Sam said that coming out as gay was the right thing to do. It included a one-on-one with Sam and Winfrey. Sam said that while he knew coming out was the right decision, his preference was to tell the team that drafted him before the news became public."

Now, Michael is showing fans, and everyone else, that he isn't about to recall that statement. According to TMZ Sports, Michael and his boyfriend have been posting a lot of pics that feature the happy couple:

"Michael Sam is leaving the harsh world of NFL rejection behind him...jaunting off to Europe for a fun-filledvacation with his BF Vito. [They] have been posting photos on Instagram...from spots like Madrid, Rome and most recently The Vatican on a multi-country trip to celebrate Sam's 25th birthday.am believes the fact he's openly gay is a factor as to why he's not on an NFL roster -- but it's clear he refuses to compromise the way he lives his life for a shot to make it in the league."
