K-Pop's Hyuna from 4Minute Ranks No. 5 on 'Rolling Stone's' '10 Best Music Videos of 2014' List with 'Red,' Just Behind Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Sia

Rolling Stone has ranked K-pop star Hyuna’s hit “Red” No. 5 on its “10 Best Music Videos of 2014” list.

Hyuna, the rapper from the all-girl K-pop sensation 4Minute, released her third solo album last year, titled A Talk, which included her single “Red.” Its rare to see a K-pop video rank in an American list, especially so high. Hyuna is the only Asian artist to make the cut.

“Hyuna's K-pop hit is a schizophrenic mess, switching from trap and hip-hop to bubbly pop and slinky Middle Eastern electro,” says the magazine.

The list also includes Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space,” Beyoncé’s “Pretty Hurts” with ‘“Chandelier” by Sia at No. 1.

After “Red” was released in South Korea, it quickly climbed the charts all the way to the No. 1 spot. The video for “Red” currently has more than 20 million YouTube views.

This is not Hyuna’s first foray into the American music scene. The pretty K-pop star has been slowly making the crossover into the U.S. limelight. In 2011, her single “Bubble Pop” ranked No. 9 on Spin magazine’s “Best 20 Songs of 2011.” In March, she performed at the SXSW music festival in Austin as a part of the “K-Pop Night Out” program. She also went to Los Angeles and filmed a Funny or Die sketch with hit-maker Rita Ora.

“Some major Korean broadcasters thought the original video was too hot for TV, which means it might just be right for an American crossover,” says Rolling Stone.

Hyuna will be performing “Red” at Beijing’s 2014 Golden Disk Awards Jan. 14.
