Warner Brothers is putting its full weight behind the DC Comics live-action franchise. Recently, the studio announced a long line of upcoming film’s including the supervillain lead Suicide Squad. The main cast were recently announced including, Will Smith as Deadshot, Jared Leto as The Joker and Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg Jr just to name a few. However, one major role was left off the list and that is leader of Task Force X (the official name for the Suicide Squad) Amanda “The Wall” Waller. Rumor had it that talk show guru, Oprah Winfrey was being eyed for the role. Now, a new name has been thrown into the ring, and that means that Oprah might be out.
Latino Review is now reporting that How To Get Away With Murder star Viola Davis has been cast as Amanda Waller in the new Suicide Squad movie.
Amanda Waller is has been a fixture in the DC Universe on various different levels including appearances in the animated universe, Green Lantern film and TV series Arrow and Smallville.
C. C. H. Pounder voiced the character in the majority of the DCAU shows like Justice League and Batman Beyond with Sheryl Lee Ralph taking over on Young Justice.
Angela Bassett played Waller in the Green Lantern live-action film and Pam Grier played her on Smallville. Cynthia Addai-Robinson is currently playing Waller on The CW’s Arrow.
