Cuba Gooding Jr Plays OJ Simpson In FX Miniseries After Award Winning Role in Jerry Maguire

Cuba Gooding Jr. is most well known for telling Jerry Maguire to show him the money. However, Cuba has had a very successful and respectable career beyond that. Now, someone very close to O.J. Simpson, Kato Kaelin, claims Cuba would play the Juice Man perfectly in an upcoming FX miniseries.

The now 46 Cuba originally hails from The Bronx area of New York City. His first gig in showbiz was performing as a break-dancer with the soulful Lionel Richie. He didn't really have a break out role in acting until 1991, with Boyz n The Hood.

From that point on, Cuba's career exploded with notable role after notable role. Then, as we all know, he landed a role in the infamous sports blockbuster comedy, Jerry Maguire.

His performance was exceptional and it earned him an Acadmey Award for Best Supporting Actor. The Huffington Post describes his acceptance speech, which provides a glimpse at the actor's passion:

"If you saw Cuba Gooding Jr. deliver his acceptance speech when he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1997, then you know what passion, dedication and excitement looks like. The "Jerry Maguire" actor's litany of thank-you's and I-love-you's was emotional, fast-paced and unstoppable."

Now, Kato Kaelin, most famous for his involvement with the O.J. murder trial, claims Gooding Jr. would be a great choice to play Simpson in FX's new series.

TMZ Sports reports on Kaelin's opinions of Cuba's ability:

"Cuba Gooding Jr. is the PERFECT guy to play O.J. Simpson in an upcoming TV miniseries...so says someone who would know -- Kato Kaelin. [He says] CBJ will portray [O.J.] in an upcoming FX miniseries called, American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson. 'Cuba's my friend. I think he's gonna do great...[O.J.] had an arrogance to him'...which Cuba will have no trouble nailing down. 'I think [O.J.'s personality] is a lot like Cuba's character in Jerry Maguire. He wanted the attention...that was pretty much O.J. Simpson.'"

If Cuba's performance is anything close to what it was in Jerry Maquire, then the miniseries is sure to succeed. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below.
