It was revealed earlier in the week that Marvel / Disney and Sony had been in talks to have Spider-Man appear in Captain America 3: Civil War. However, those deals apparently fell through. Now new rumors are emerging that claim that the deal could still be in motion, if Sony drops Andrew Garfield from the role.
Earlier in the week, The Wall Street Journal reported that Sony was in talks with Disney to have Spider-Man appear in the Marvel Cinimatic Universe.
Sony’s recent hack revealed that Sony C.E.O. Kaz Hirai and Disney C.E.O. Robert Iger, almost had a deal to let the Mouse take over the entire Spider-Man film franchise.
The reported 60/40 deal would leave Sony with distribution rights, and creative control over the character. However, the creative control aspect of the deal is rumored to have killed the crossover.
Latino Review is now reporting that Disney wanted Andrew Garfield to be replaced as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, and that they were also hoping to move away from the romantic storyline.
Sony was apparently not willing to let go of Garfield or creative control. However, now that Sony is suffering the effects of the leak, rumor is that Disney may get their wish.
