The beautiful French movie trailer for Le Petite Prince — or The Little Prince, as English speaking audiences know it — has been released.
The Little Prince, written by Antoine de Saint-Exupery in 1943, is one of the most-read and most-translated books in the French language as well as one of the best-selling books of all time.
The Little Prince is the beloved story about a little boy with a lot of imagination. He grows up to be a pilot and, after a crash in the Sahara Desert, meets a little boy who he calls “the little prince.” The new trailer has offered a 21st-century take on the timeless tale. A studious girl discovers the story of the The Little Prince through an older neighbor. This gentleman is none other than the pilot from the tale itself.
French speakers at Vulture have provided a translation for the trailer.:
Old Man: Oh, oh! I'm here! Up here! [He waves.] Good evening!
Little Girl: [Reading] Once upon a time, a little prince who needed a friend?
Old Man: I've flown almost everywhere in the world, until something miraculous happened.
Little Prince: Please, draw me a sheep.
Old Man: I've always wanted to find someone to share my story with, but I think this world has become too grown-up ... It's only the beginning of the story!
The director is Mark Osborne, who helmed 2008’s Kung Fu Panda. That movie employed a similar style of animation, one vivid with bright colors, whimsical textures and a surprisingly tactile depth — a fitting aesthetic for The Little Prince's surreal, dreamlike narrative.
The English trailer has not yet been released, but the movie is will feature voicework from Jeff Bridges, Rachel McAdams and James Franco. The film will be released in 2015.
