Barack Obama has been through a lot in his life, and everyone knows the last six years have been tough. However, there is a lighter side to the leader of the free world. Apparently, Obama was somewhat of an athlete before he entered the political world. While up for re-election in 2012, he received support from many professionals in the NBA, including Michael Jordan. Now, reports have surfaced discussing Obama's recent golf game with New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter.
It doesn't matter if you're a party supporter, a neutral citizen or just over the age of 12, you have probably heard more than your fair share of information about the Commander in Chief. However, one of the less discussed details is Obama's past and positive opinion of sports and athletes alike.
The truth is Obama is shy to admit he is Americas #1 sports fan. Barack has even spoken about violence in sports like football, saying he too experienced a few concussions in his day. According to The Washington Post, his public support for sports in our country has earned Obama the support of some super star athletes:
"Basketball players from both the NBA and WNBA participated in an all day fundraiser for President Obama's reelection campaign in New York recently, signing autographs and running a fantasy camp for the hundreds of participants. The event included a dinner reception hosted by Hall of Fame legend Michael Jordan and league Commissioner David Stern."
The President's interest doesn't stop with basketball, or concussions in football. Recently, reporters caught up with ex-Yankee Derek Jeter to to ask what it was like on Jeter's recent trip to the golf course with the President.
According to TMZ Sports, Jeter didn't go into the specifics of what they discussed:
"The NY Yankees legend was doing a Q&A at Steiner Sports in NYC on Saturday when he was asked about his Nov. 22nd golf excursion with the leader of the free world in Las Vegas...'We talked about some things.'"
Jeter added, "'I heard that he wanted to play...and I'm not good at all...so I was extremely nervous.' Jeter and Obama's foursome included Las Vegas Sun newspaper owner Brian Greenspun and campaign supporter Stephen Cloobeck."
The site signs off by pointing out that Jeter supposedly took the P.O.T.U.S. to the cleaners. What do you think? Has Obama's open support of sports improved his standings with young voters? Or, is it too little too late? Let us know in the comment section below.
