Maurice "Moe" Harkless has only been in the NBA for a couple years, and even though he is still green in some areas, he shows a lot of promise. Harkless seems like a nice young man, which is exemplified in his speech addressing his dual position as a member for the Puerto Rico International Team. Shockingly, though, recent reports have stated that Harkless is under police investigation for stealing from a stripper
The 21-year-old was brought on as a member of the Orlando Magic during the 2012 NBA draft. Before that, he was the star player for St. John's Red Storm out of New York City. He also currently plays on the Puerto Rican International Team.
Some analysts have pointed out that the 6ft 8in baller is physically strong as a forward, and that he has potential to be an excellent lockdown defender. He is surprisingly athletic for someone with such a large frame.
Moreover, he seems to carry a great respect for his teammates and the game of basketball. His speech addressing his new position on the Puerto Rican International Team, captured by Orlando Pin Striped Post, shows his drive to succeed:
"'I am grateful for the opportunity to play for the National Team of Puerto Rico,' Harkless said in the Federation's statement. 'I look forward to playing alongside these men and helping win games on an international level.'"
All evidence up until this point suggested that, with time and some work, Harkless had the makings of greatness. However, according to TMZ Sports, Harkless actions prove he is not the same outside of basketball:
"...Orlando Magic player Maurice Harkless [has] been named in a police report filed by an exotic dancer in San Francisco. Law enforcement sources confirm...the dancer claims 21-year-old Maurice came into the club late Sunday night -- but before he left early Monday morning, he swiped her cell phone and took it with him...the stripper confronted the player and tried to get the phone back...to no avail...the San Francisco Police Department is now investigating the incident...and there is surveillance footage that could crack the case."
Unfortunately for Magic fans and admirers of the sport of basketball, they are the ones who suffer from these kinds of reports.
