Tony Hawk has broken a lot a ground as an American professional skater. Some would argue that he is the best skateboarder alive. However, Hawk has received some pretty serious injuries during the course of his career. Back in 2010, he actually sheared his pelvis. Recently, however, photos showing Tony on a hospital bed with a gruesome gash to the leg have surfaced. After these latest images, fans are left wondering if Tony may be retiring -- now both personally and professionally -- from skateboarding for good.
The Birdman's accomplishments as a skateboarder are some of the most respected in his class. In 1999 Tony became the first skater to land a "900" -- a trick that involves completing two and a half mid-air rotations.
Hawk finally nailed it after twelve tries.
Over the years, Hawk has appeared in many different films, mixed-media outlets, the x-games and he even has his own video game series.
The pro-skating powerhouse is reportedly worth about $140 million. But, not even all of that cash can keep Tony injury free.
The skateboarding legnend recenty underwent one heck of a knee injury and, according to TMZ Sports, it doesn't look good. (GRAPHIC):
"Ever wanted to know what the inside of Tony Hawk's thigh looks like? Well, now you can 'cause he RIPPED HIS LEG OPEN during a crazy skate accident in New Orleans. The details surrounding the accident are unclear -- but here's what we know ... THERE WAS A GIANT BLOODY HOLE IN TONY'S LEG...The good news ... he's been stitched up and even gave the ol' thumbs up sign to the camera."
His leg looks pretty rough, however, according to NESN, this injury is not near as bad as the one he received in 2010:
"When you make a living riding a skateboard for the better part of three decades, you're bound to wear a few scrapes and bruises. Unfortunately for 42-year-old legend Tony Hawk, he suffered something a little more serious over the weekend. Hawk crashed in an event in Anaheim, Calif., on Saturday, suffering a sheared pelvis and a hematoma. As seen in the video below, the crash wasn't the worst in skateboarding history, but the damage says otherwise."
