The New York Nets are currently trying to work out trade negotiations for their small forward Andrei Kirilenko. It is reported that even though he has been an overall consistent player in past seasons, he just is not working in Lionel Hollins' rotation. Additionally, a recent family emergency has severely limited Andrei's court time. This, coupled with a number of injuries last season, has many questioning whether a trade is even viable.
Some of the potential franchises that need a forward like Kirilenko include The Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers. However, recent news indicates that Kirilenko will spend a lot time away from The Nets while he deals with a family matter in New York.
This could make a trade difficult and the circumstances, as of now, are still up in the air. Also, Andrei has averaged very little playtime this season, so one starts to wonder if the one-time All-Star is even a potential trade option.
At this time, it is unknown what sort of family matter Kirilenko has to deal with. However, it has to be quite serious if he is willing to risk career opportunities over it. Yahoo Sports has the details of Kirilenko's recent absence:
"Kirilenko failed to fit into Lionel Hollins' rotation, and he separated from the Nets on a recent West Coast trip to administer to a family issue in New York. The Nets have been working to find a team that'll take the balance of his $3.3 million deal for the 2014-15 season, but a family matter that may require him remaining in New York until January or February could make it difficult for the Nets to trade him soon."
Another interesting fact to consider is that Kirilenko's current season hasn't gone that great.
That is significantly different from 2004's All-Star appearance or from 2006, when he made the All-NBA Defensive Team. Sports Illustrated points out an interesting stat from this year:
"While Kirilenko battled injuries last season, he did average 19 minutes per game in 45 games under Kidd. This season, the former All-Star has played just 36 minutes total in seven games."
