Player-turned-coach Jason Kidd has achieved a lot during his 20-year career in the NBA. Most notably, he won his first and only championship in 2011 as a member/leader of the Dallas Mavericks. Also, he has many substantial achievements that tend to go unnoticed: he has been co-rookie of the year, he led the NBA in assists several years in a row, he has been noticed as a NBA All-Star multiple times and he even won a gold medal in the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney.
However, these achievements were not on the minds of New York Nets fan's during Kidd's first game coaching against the team he once led to victory. Instead, according to Yahoo, the loud booing and yells of "traitor" indicated the fans were more concerned with Kidd's untidy farewell to the basketball franchise.
"He was loudly booed when he came onto the court and again when he was announced during pregame introductions, with a chant of ''Kidd's a traitor!'' breaking out in the first quarter." Moreover, they accurately point out that "It was a reception that would have been impossible to imagine last season, when the team retired the No. 5 jersey Kidd wore during the greatest career for a Nets player since the franchise joined the NBA."
Kidd appears to be keeping his composure, but there are hints of bitterness in his tone:
''My teammates, coaches, we did a lot for this franchise...But it's what-have-you-done-for-us-lately motto. I understand everybody has their opinion. It's business and I work for the Milwaukee Bucks.''
Also, the Bucks narrowly brought home the win (122-118). Afterwards, according to netsdaily.com, Kidd had more to say. Jason was asked if he was "happy it was over?" Kidd bitingly responded, "What's over? That I don't have to see you guys? Yeah, that's the best thing ever."
What do you think? Is Kidd a traitor? Or, is he correct in saying it’s just a business? Let us know in the comment section down below.
