NBC’s Law & Order: SVU is all new this week, after last week’s Jesse Spencer Chicago Fire crossover. This week’s episode is ripped right out of the headlines, surrounding Ray Rice and the NFL’s domestic abuse controversy. The Walking Dead’s Tyreese actor Chad Coleman stars in tonight’s new episode, with Gotham’s Leslie Odom Jr.
The official plot synopsis for tonight’s all new episode of Law & Order: SVU, titled “Spousal Privilege,” reads:
“A domestic-violence dispute involving a sportscaster and his girlfriend is uncovered on security-camera footage from a parking garage, but the girlfriend is reluctant to seek legal help because she doesn't want her family to break apart.”
The Walking Dead’s Chad Coleman recently spoke to Yahoo TV about his role in tonight’s episodes:
“His name is A.J. Martin. He's an ex-football player and now a sportscaster and a very accomplished sportscaster...He makes a reprehensible choice, and he has to deal with the consequences of that. You really see a 360-degree view of this issue. They don't eviscerate anyone, and it's laid out in a manner where the audience can decide for themselves what they believe should happen to him. At the same time, there is a verdict.”
Coleman, was careful not to say his character was inspired by Ray Rice, adding:
“I don't know nothing about that! I'll say it like this: What'chu talkin' 'bout, Willis? But you know, even before that happened, this is something that was present and going on and needed to be addressed anyway, so we don't need to draw that line.”
Tune into tonight’s all new episode of Law & Order: SVU episode, at 9:00 p.m. eastern on NBC.
