Despite having been absent from the limelight for a while, actress Tea Leoni, best known for being X-Files star David Duchovny's ex-wife, is impressing audiences and critics alike with her new TV show Madam Secretary on CBS. According to the latest tabloid updates, while the political drama's ratings have been growing so has Tea's ego. Word has it that even though the network has already sold the first season of the series to BSkyB, they may have to pull the plug and cancel the whole thing, if no one is willing to work with Tea.
With the Nielsen ratings growing at an almost exponential rate, it looks like Madam Secretary may be the opportunity of Tea Leoni's lifetime--too bad she's blowing it.
According to a behind-the-scenes production source, Tea has grown out of control--trying to take over every aspect of the show's production (via Star):
"Téa told producers that she wants final approval over her costars--she doesn't want anyone who's a bigger name on the show.
"[Her] ego needs some checks and balances.
"Téa wants to be the most talked-about character and throws a fit if she doesn't like one of her lines.
"She also wants to be in every scene, which has caused some tension."
Whatever goes on while they are making the show, the fans are absolutely loving the final product; BroadCastingCable.com reports that the show's audience grew 20% last week alone.
As far as how she approaches the role, Leoni explained to Parade that in a way she was born to play the part of TV arbitrator:
"Women are masters of diplomacy.
"We're probably at an unfair advantage, maybe because we know we can't rely upon a good right hook.
"Making a case and negotiating--that's what we want to do in the show."
Luckily, if Tea does blow this shot at fame, at least she won't have to work for another five years or so...or at least that seems to be her career arch shes's goign for.
