Emmy winner and Seinfeld co-creator Larry David will appear in his new Broadway-bound play Shiva, Showbiz411 reports.
Producer Scott Rudin reportedly convinced David, who wasn't going to act in the production, to change his mind. Tony-winning producer Rudin's persuasiveness may have been enhanced by the string of successes he's had of late, with hits including The Book of Mormon and last season's A Raisin in the Sun revival which starred Denzel Washington and netted a Tony Award for Sophie Okonedo.
Whether and how Jerry Seinfeld will be involved isn't clear at this point. He could produce, direct, or even star. Seinfeld has directed Colin Quinn on Broadway in Quinn's solo show Long Story Short.
"Shiva" (commonly phrased "sitting Shiva") is the post-funeral period of mourning in the Jewish tradition. David has used it as a plot point in his HBO series Curb Your Enthusiasm, a ninth season of which may be in the works--Broadway permitting.
